Privacy and cookie policy

Last updated 16 October 2026

This policy explains what personal information this website collects, how it’s used and your rights, and how we use cookies.

Who we are

Health Innovation South East Scotland (HISES) is the NHS-embedded innovation hub for NHS Lothian, NHS Fife and NHS Borders. HISES is hosted by NHS Lothian, which is the data controller for personal information collected through this website.

NHS Lothian’s Data Protection Notice explains in full how NHS Lothian looks after personal information, including how to contact its Data Protection Officer. This page covers what is specific to this website.

What we collect and why

  • Contact form: your name, email address and organisation, the sector you work in, the type of enquiry and your message. We use these details to reply to you and, where it helps, to put you in touch with the right team in NHS Lothian, NHS Fife or NHS Borders.

  • Newsletter sign-up: your name, email address, organisation and job title. We use these only to send you the HISES newsletter.

  • Emails you send us: whatever you choose to include, used to deal with your message.

  • Website statistics: anonymous figures such as the number of visits and which pages are viewed. These don’t identify you (see Cookies below).

We don’t sell your information or use it for marketing beyond the newsletter you ask for.

Our lawful basis

  • Replying to enquiries: this is part of NHS Lothian’s public task in supporting health and care innovation (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(e)).

  • The newsletter: your consent (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a)). You can withdraw it at any time by emailing loth.innovations@nhs.scot.

Who we share it with

  • Partner NHS boards: if your enquiry is best handled by colleagues in NHS Fife or NHS Borders, we may pass it to them.

  • Our website provider: this website is built and hosted on Framer, which processes form submissions and website statistics on our behalf. Framer’s privacy statement explains how it handles data.

  • Where the law requires it: for example to meet a legal obligation.

How long we keep it

  • Enquiries: for as long as we need to deal with your enquiry, in line with NHS Scotland records management guidance.

  • Newsletter details: until you ask us to stop sending the newsletter.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, object to or restrict how we use it, and withdraw your consent where we rely on it.

To make a request, email loth.innovations@nhs.scot or see NHS Lothian’s guidance on requests for personal information.

Cookies

Cookies are small files that some websites store on your device. This website doesn’t use advertising or tracking cookies.

Our website statistics come from Framer’s built-in analytics, which work without cookies and without storing any identifier on your device. Framer explains how this works. Because of this, you won’t see a cookie banner on this site.

This website links to other sites, such as LinkedIn, NHS boards, partners and funders. They have their own privacy and cookie policies, which apply when you visit them. If we ever add a service that uses cookies, such as embedded videos, we’ll update this policy and ask for your consent first.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
